The deadlines and policies presented in this website are specific to Thomas Register projects submitted to Terrapin Design. They are not intended as blanket policies to be applied to other, non-TR projects submitted to us for production, though many of the policies laid out here are applicable to graphic design projects in general.

The purpose of the deadlines and policies presented in this section is to ensure that your Thomas Register program materials get to New York on time. We all have a vested interest in the successful completion of all materials.

All of the material presented in this section of our website applies solely to Terrapin Design. We do not claim to speak for Thomas Publishing, nor do we claim any rights or authority to act as agents or representatives of Thomas Publishing. Thomas Publishing has not assisted in the presentation of any materials in this website, nor have they officially sanctioned any of the policies, deadlines, guidelines or other statements presented here. Terrapin Design is not the agent or representative of any other company or Film-In-Field vendor, and the policies and deadlines presented in this web site do not represent anyone other than Terrapin Design.

Terrapin Design has been engaged in "film-in-the-field" production since 1993. Our experience includes the full line of Thomas Register products-- Products & Services Ads, Company Profiles, Catalogs, Web Sites, and CD-ROM Catalogs. We are thoroughly familiar with what it takes to produce the necessary materials within the limits of a very strict deadline.

Thomas Register represents one of the better advertising and marketing values available to manufacturing enterprises of all sizes. The Register is widely distributed, and even more important, widely used by purchasers. Beyond that, the Register has a 100+ year history that gives it a name recognition almost unmatched in its field.

Advertising in the Register has its own set of production requirements that usually don't apply to other venues. The most important of these is the relentless deadline for the submission of materials-- miss it, and you're entire program could go right down the tubes. And you won't be forgiven the bills either.

Thomas Publishing does not sell advertising. It sells SPACE in the Thomas Register. This is a very important distinction. The space you purchase from TR is empty when you buy it, and it will remain empty until someone fills it up with a advertisement. TR will not fill that space for you. You-- the advertiser-- have to fill it yourself. The most important thing to understand is this-- once you buy the space, you own the space. You own it if you fill it, and you own it if you don't fill it. Since you own it, you have to pay for it, empty or full. And if you don't fill it by a certain date, you will pay for empty space.

This is not unique to Thomas Register-- every newspaper and magazine in the world operates on the same basis. You buy space that has to be filled by a certain date or the publication goes without you. Its really that black-and-white simple.

The film-in-the-field vendor (that's us) is the vehicle that helps you get the space you bought filled up with something that will generate business for you. We are compensated to produce advertising FROM THE MATERIALS SUPPLIED TO US BY THE ADVERTISERS. We can't generate them from vapor. Neither can we generate them in under 5 minutes. The following pages are intended to familiarize you with the procedures that need to be followed to ensure that you get an effective ad, and that you get it produced in time to meet the TR deadlines.
